Earlier I said that the industry makes you think new things look better so that you appreciate old styles less and you insist on buying the newest and the best looking things. Well here are the facts, it's true.
Take fashion for example, if suspenders never go out of style then you'll just be wearing suspenders for the rest of your life. But what if you wear suspenders one year and then your favorite magazine promotes belts. You say "no way! Suspenders rule! I'm not gonna waste my money on that" but then your peers start wearing these newfound belts and all of a sudden you reconsider.
What if it's the same principle for sayyyyyyyy, headphones. When you buy headphones you're looking for the best ones right? So you pick the pretty and expensive ones. Here's the thing though, headphones and their quality are determined by their driver sizes and types of rare earth magnets. You picked out your headphones without ever looking at the specs or knowing about them. Companies know this, their train of thought is that the consumer is uneducated in making choices and that if they look nice and go for a high price then they're good quality.
It's a neat trick, depending which end of the dollar you are on. It's one of the evils of art and the purpose of it, and that's to catch your eye. It's also the foundation and goal of marketing, to take advantage of a customers spending habits.
